About us
Suvelfabryk is the brainchild of Johan and Minne Dijkstra, two enterprising brothers from Ljussens. As hands-on owners of their own construction company, they had long dreamed of breathing new life into the abandoned Suvelfabryk. After years of planning and searching for the right partners, their dream finally became reality in 2020. With a concept by Sytske Oosterhof and a design by TWA architects, the plan received generous support from the Wadden Fund, K(l)eigoed, and LEADER, along with backing from the municipality of Noardeast-Fryslân. Johan and Minne were also personally prepared to fund the purchase and launch the adventure themselves. After demolishing almost everything except the foundations and outer walls, the ruins were transformed into stunning industrial-style holiday apartments in 2022 and 2023. Suvelfabryk has been restored and reborn! We would like to thank everyone who contributed to the realization of this remarkable project. Without the advice, funding, craftsmanship, and creativity, it would never have been possible!
Mini Museum
To give guests and visitors a glimpse into the past and the significance of Suvelfabryk for the area, we have set up a small museum. In the reception area you can see old photos and materials and read stories of the founding of the Dairy Cooperative De Dongeradelen and discover all that was produced here.
